cahaya...

Pertama kali waktu dia bangun tidur. Dia melihat banyak cahaya di atas tempat tidurnya. Ajaib sekali.

Subhanallah..wallahu alam bishowwab

*please bear in mind ..ini bukan cerpen...
ada yang bisa menjelaskan cahaya apa itu?

Prof Hooi's last lecture :(

Marketing lecture is the star this sem. How can it not be? The prof teaching is Prof Hooi Den Huan who is so much excited in his lecture. Excited? so wat?

Gee...he always succeds in pulling out our interest in marketing by giving funny and amusing examples. Check out some of them and you'll find yourself laughing outloud hahaha

Lesson 1: Customer satisfaction
I guess this one is something you have ever come across. But he made it up to be a very amusing-marketing story...

YOU are the man with brown Tshirt
YOUR CUSTOMER is the girl with green tshirt
YOUR COMPETITOR is the guy with blue Tshirt
and....

and this picture is YOUR PROBLEM cos you CAN NOT satisfy your customer and maintain her attention ONLY for you ^^

Lesson 2 : Selling your product which is....YOURSELF

If you wanna approach a girl...
You have to do a deep research on her...
Find out EVERYTHING she likes...
You have to do something that really appeals to her...

If your research finds out that she likes roses
Give her roses on her birthday
Even a virtual rose will do when you have nothing left in your pocket ^^

If your research says that she really loves her mom..
Please her mom ...
Grab her attention..
Make sure that her mom falls in love with you...
and once you did it.. you won't have to chase after your dream girl...
"mom" will do it for you ^^

Lesson 3 : Never argue with a woman ?
(very important to you who's "prospecting" a girl ^^)

he said :

NEVER argue with a woman
But If you can't help it...

(still) Never argue with a woman !!

Lesson 4: very important to those marketers ^^

What's the difference between men and a women?

MEN will be willing to pay $2 for a $1 stuff that he REALLY likes...

whereas

WOMEN will pay $1 for a $2 stuff...
no matter she likes it or not ^^

XD lol....

and I'm so sad cos today was his last lecture. Another lecturer will be coming down teaching us next meeting, the one that Krist said has a boring face :( hope it won't be :(

Team or Group? (part one )

My OB class at that moment was talking about the difference between group and team .

A group consists of people who act based on emotional ties and interact on a regular basis. Whereas a team is small number of people who have different capabilities and they complement and try to align em to boost the team performance.

Well till now, Ive got both, which I really miss at the moment...

This is the order of my debating team.
Me as the first speaker
Iqbal as the second speaker
and Hanin as the third speaker

Gee...I really miss those moment when we were struggling in the province debating championship. Undeniably, the most life-or-death battle was when we were facing Taruna Nusantara (hehe..my rumie is now from that SMU X hahaha ..kidding ^^) and we couldnt believe that we successfully knocked down their proposal ^^ (though, TN team was vveeery great, and we also had a great time with the three of them ^^)

We're actually composed of very different bakcground and personalities.

I can be said as a quite person (ehm..not that quiet...but I AM when compared to those two guys)

Iqbal? haha...still remember when he was in his first year, just coming back from Aussie and being the center of attention in my team ..always...
He's the breakdance guy, seems so cool (but once you know him? olala...180 degree different hahaha...peace bal ^^)
how come? whenever we're coming down for competition, there will be "those" girls who are busy with their cameras taking every angle of him, and every expression he has (ooops...a bit of hyperbolic story...) and in the end..those girls will chase after him to get his mobile phone number ...ow dear...Hanin and I always feel marginalized hahaha....

and Hanin?
oops...you won't dare to argue him as he will kill you by his words right away.....
He's the "politician" in my team and his obsession of SBY will never be defeated (my buddies even call him SBY jr.^^)

Our team has ever gone through those "disaster". Conflict? almost in every brainstorming :P esp me and hanin who are like the opposite pole of the earth :P gee...poor iqbal who's sitting between us (literally, as he was the second speaker). He seems to do everything to align me and hanin again...but most of the time failed :P and I dunno how hanin and I will re-align ourselves without anybody trying to help...it's just happening like that...automatically..funny things that I will surely miss ^^

Yet, those disasters even tighten our relationship and teamwork. We became a very solid team, supporting each other everytime, without smebody has ever asked to. Why? because we work with love in our friendship. It's also the sense of belonging to our team. Gee...really miss those time at the moment...

Marketing and Self-Esteem?

Do u think these two words have any correlation? for u guys I dunno. But for me? It means A LOT!!

Studying overseas faces huge number of problems. Even if you're an Indonesian. You will realize you do . I don't mean to undermine or wat, but people somehow see you from the stereotype of your country. Forgive me once more, but frankly speaking (and I bet this has been a "top" secret of all time) that our country does not have a very good track record in the world out there.

Maybe ppl studying in engineering won't really feel bad about this as my Singaporean friends have ever said that Indonesian guys are known for their terribly excellent math and science. And this is , yes, very true. Just count how many Indonesian guys in NTU have got outstanding achievements. How many Indonesian guys are there have won olympiad? How many guys are there have joined URECA? Maybe not as much as Chinese do but we're still on T.O.P position. Undeniable...

But what about ppl like me? Studying business in other country would be a good mean of education. But with Indonesia's economy that seems to worsen (added by those disaster...my friends ever said "how could such a vast country like yours develop if disaster keeps coming and riots are everywhere?" You know wat? She's rite. Although I can not blame God for the disaster He gave), you inevitably got a slight mental shock.

Professor Lang ever mentioned about 5 stratas in the human Hierarchy Needs. One of them, which is after love and social acceptance, is Self-Esteem. It is the need of being respected by others. And in some cases, my marketing lesson has fulfilled that need of mine in this so scarce-esteem world.

You know Hermawan Kartajaya , dun u? He's one of the greatest marketing man of the age. And one thing that is important for me : He is an INDONESIAN.

Imagine..in other lectures, the lecturers often take Indonesia as a bad example. You can still recall those hazy days resulting from the illegal forest burn-out, cant u? You can still remember where the wind brought the haze to, cant u? Singapore suffered badly from the haze (even there was almost a possibility that schools from elementary to poly got dismissed as the haze was really bad). The haze also became a headline in the Tribune (or Nanyang Chronicle I forget). Can you imagine how blushed I was at that time when this problem was addressed in class? It actually really hurts inside...

And in marketing?? everything turns up to the opposite way. Kartajaya is the one who co-founded the market-ing concept (together with Phillip Kotler). If Phillip Kotler is the Global Father of marketing, then Kartajaya is the Asian one. Indeed, he is a hero from our country, who proudly says that he is an indonesian.

My lecturer, Prof Hooi Den Huan, is a big fan of him, I can say. He wrote rethinking marketing with Kotler, Kartajaya, and Sandra Liu. He keeps mentioning Kartajaya and his concept in lecture. I can guarantee you that he never omit to mention Kartajaya and Kotler , even to skip it in one single lecture.

Kartajaya has given me a passion to move on (not neseccarily in marketing, cos at the moment I'm so pissed off by my marketing lesson). When I met him he said , "Jadi orang Indonesia jangan malu-maluin!!" so simple but kinda stab inside :(
You know wat? he's right.
Gee...I can recall almost everything in my first semester...
I have done nothing, still so far away from my perfect model of an Indonesian....

Bubye Friendster!! 再见!!!

Well..it's almost one month since I deleted my FS account....got a li'l surprised?? well..that's normal... I actually bit of lost now since I deliberately cut the access to my friends. But maybe that's necessary for now regading of how addicted I have been for FS. It already drove me crazy and I dun want to go any further for this time, well...at least for this time. I can make another account later laa (OMG...my singlish!!!)

Addicted? so what? any prob with it?? well..surely yes. I can spend hours browsing FS without I even take any notice!! that's terribly terrible !!(what a grammar!)

So....is the situation getting better now?? NO more time wasting innit? hum.... well...cant say so actually..cos my FS desire gotta be delivered in another field. And guess what! Yap! My new toy! blogspot! which is....I dont know what you guys think abt blogging. It does spend time also, but I dont know if it is a waste or not. Yet, I think this is better as I produce something instead of just browsing through people's biodatas and that's it. It's like you go eating out then go home. There's nothing else, so ordinary, and well...it's over like there's nothing has happened (not that hyperbolic actually hehe...)

Though..I really miss FS at this moment...cos I miss my friends. And know I can only contact them through emails n chats (I dont know why YM seems sooooo boring recently...no activity to do there...cos people I often used to talk are soooo busy now with their work and I dont want to distract their attention..though I really wanna talk to them cos the feeling inside feels like burning huhuhu...)

Okay...this is FS rehabilitation time...no more FS....no more FS...that spell keeps resounding in my head

and the recovering words would be :
"I can make another account...maybe several month later or after another year passes by...be patient...be patient..."

再见 Friendster!!

你是那国人?

Well..that's actually the last week lesson in my elementary chinese class (LC80). It reads "ni shi na guo ren?" . It actually means "which country are you from?" The answer would be surely "我是印泥 人” (I am indonesian....I am proud to be!!! yeahhhh)

Humm...learning chinese and mastering it is somehow a need if we're living amidst this circumstance (read: Singapore :P). Now wouldn't you be annoyed when your project mates talk to each other in chinese in front of your nose while you do not understand even one single word. That's irritating innit? Then I feel really determined to take this subject ( although the story is a bit different. I used to have Japs in my schedule but as the exam schedule will be in the same day as Econs then I dropped Japs..huhu...bubye Japs..so it's not really that determined ...lol)

So...how's the progress?? ehhmm....at least I can understand when people say "wo-men (我们)" or "meiyou (没有)" which literally mean "we" and "no" hahahaha...lol

*always trying to 学习 汉语。。。!!!

Prisoner's Dilemma--Middle East Version

For you guys ever took Principles of Economics must know what Prisoner's Dilemma is.
For those who does not, I'll try to explain it briefly later.

Just yesterday, Econs lecture was so amusing. As usual, Mrs. Shubhasree Seshanna was like doing a sprint in delivering her lecture, though it was an interesting one.
We were having the Monopoly and Market Power topic at that time and assessing whether a thinking is strategic or not. It simply means whether steps that a company take will generate high payoffs given that other company also has a different strategy which is not unlikely to threaten the company's position. Ehmm....sounds very confusing at the first time. Well...it is...

Let's assume we have two firms, A and B. The most dominant (or let's say profitable decision) would be to expand ad spending as it will generate more revenue. thus we have four condition :
1. A expands B expands >> A and B gets 5 milion
2. A expands B not >> A gets 20 m B gets 0 m
3. B expands A not >> A gets 0 m B gets 20 m
4. A and B do not expand >> both get 12 m
In this logical thinking, both actually are better when they do not expand the ad spending which will generate them 12 m each, compared to both expand but only get 5 each

One tickling question to tackle this case : Why is it so? Why dun they just keep quiet than to spend money to ad and afterall get less? (oopps..maybe two qns hehehe)

My answer would be very simple : It's their ego and selfishness which drive them to act that way

They could just have an MOU at the first place of not generating more ads (which is very unlikely as how could a firm survive without advertising their products??).
Both wil save their money and get the fair slice of the pie.
However, A may think that if it does not expand the ads then B has the probability to cheat the MOU. And the final situation is that A gets nothing while B gets the whole desired 20 million profit.

Maybe at the same time, in different place, B would have thought of the same thinking, which is that A will stab it from its back.

And the result would be that both expand the advertising and get what is less-desired condition which only generates them 5 million each. Ironical isn't it?
The advertising case maybe not really good to be applied in this position as expanding ads is a natural thing a firm would do in surviving the market. Though it explains the confusion.

But maybe Israel-Pakistan case would be a lot more interesting.

Both has the dominant decision of arming themselves and attack the opposite party as that will give them more established area in the land-occupation dispute.

Maybe you may ask, why dun they keep quiet, shake their hands in peace, share the land fairly, and live as neighbours peacefully side by side?

May I ask how many times the've tried to have MOU of disarmy? What is it for? well... it's clearly for their sake.

Why these MOUs seem or maybe show clearly that they dun work?

The answer would be the same : It's their ego and selfishness which drive them to act that way

It's not that easy to ask them to stay togeher in peace as they've been having the prejudice since the first time. It's the prejudice of who grabbed whose land first and the issue of which land is whose. Unfortunately, this thinking has penetrated deeply and emerged an assumption that each will attack the other . They may say "If I dun act first then I'm doomed". And again, this is the thought of both parties.

What's the result?
Both attack each other and both are doomed. Actually a lot worse..they also hurt the innocent ppl around them.

That's truly a dilemma.
I dun know whether there's any resolution for this satanic cycle...
Can anybody explain this?
